Born in Cali, Colombia, in 1955, Roldán studied art history at the École du Louvre and earned a degree in architecture from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. An artist of remarkable eclecticism and expressive depth, his work reflects a broad range of styles and themes and he is recognized as one of the most influential Colombian artists of his generation. Carolina Ponce de León,art curator and historian, has summed up his career thus: “Over the last 30 years, Luis Fernando Roldán has developed an eclectic, unpredictable work that is subtly daring and intuitive, through media as diverse as drawing, collage, installation, sculptural objects, video and sound.”
